Michael Douglas Says Oral Sex May Have Caused His Cancer

Stop the presses! We can't believe what we heard through the Internet grapevine overnight.

Actor Michael Douglas, star of stage and screen and husband of the beautiful Catherine Zeta-Jones says cunnilingus causes cancer?

Could that be true?

Seriously?

Douglas was at the Cannes International Film Festival being interviewed by Xan Brooks of The Guardian. When he was asked if he thought his throat cancer was caused by drinking and smoking, he went in another directon that the reporter clearly didn't anticipate.

"No. Because, without wanting to get too specific, this particular cancer is caused by HPV (Human Papilloma Virus), which actually comes about from cunnilingus," Douglas said.

The reporter, believing he may have misheard the actor, asked Douglas to repeat his answer.

"From cunnilingus. I mean, I did worry if the stress caused by my son's incarceration didn't help trigger it. But yeah, it's a sexually transmitted disease that causes cancer."

And so just like that, Michael Douglas has brought awareness to the link between HPV and some forms of cancer. It is, in fact, true that there is a link between HPV and cancer. You can find out more about it in this MSNBC report.

And now Michael Douglas is the new poster boy for oral sex. Who'd guessed that?
