25 Fun (And Cheap) Summer Dates

Summer is the perfect time to skip the same old dinner and a movie routine, and go outside and enjoy a hot (and hopefully, getting hotter summer night…).

You don't have to spend a lot of money to have a lot of fun during the summer months. We've got some great ideas for cheap dates that will get you and your significant other enjoying some quality time together.

1. Hiking
It doesn't matter whether you live in the city or the country, a romantic stroll is a great date. You can get to know each other better while you see some sights and enjoy nature.


2. Biking
What's more romantic than a bike ride? A bicycle built for two. You can rent one for cheap. biking is relaxing and healthy. Take a ride down the boardwalk or dirt path.


3. Art Exhibit or Museum
Get a little culture and enjoy a little art. Many museums have free hours during summer evenings. And galleries will often entice customers with free wine and cheese.


4. Outdoor Movie
Many cities offer a variety of outdoor movies during the summer. Pack a blanket and snuggle up to a great comedy or thriller.


5. Putt-Putt Golf
You don't have to have any golf skills to be dynamite at miniature golf. All you have to do is be able to make the ball go into the hole. You can do that, can't you?


6. Baseball Game
You can get seats in the bleachers of most MLB parks for only $5. Want to get closer to the action? Check out college and minor league baseball games. Batter up!


7. Wine, Food or Beer Festivals
Indulge yourselves in your favorite flavors. There are many festivals celebrating food and beverages in order to tempt you to become a fan. It's a great way to spend a day!


8. Sports
It doesn't matter if it's one-on-one or an organized recreational league, there is no better way to get to know someone  with a little friendly competition.


9. Open Mic Night
Sharing a laugh together is the perfect way to spend a first date. You'll come home with an inside joke that will make you both laugh for years to come.


10. Yard Sale
Who doesn't love finding a bargain? It will be even more fun if you go on a treasure hunt together.


11. You Pick Farm
Strawberries, zucchinis, peaches and tons of other delicious fruits are in season. Take your significant other off to your local farm and see what's ripe in your area.


12. Cook Out
Stoke the flames of passion on your backyard grill. Get creative and grab a couple friends and have a potluck grill-a-thon.


13. Picnic
Take a blanket and pack a picnic basket full of your favorite wine, snacks and cheeses. There is no better way to spend time together in the summer than under the shade of a tree.


14. Photo Safari
Everybody's phone has a built-in phone, so why not document your day. Get artistic and tinker with different settings and take sweet (or naughty) headshots of each other.


15. Outdoor Concert
Music under the stars, it doesn't get any better. You don’t' have to pay top dollar for concert tickets. Many cities offer free outdoor concerts.


16. Theatre in the Park
Summer is for Shakespeare! Most theatre companies offer theatre in the great outdoors in the summer and ticket prices are often discounted. Get thee to the park!


17. Star Gazing
It's cheap and it's oh-so very romantic. Look up into the night sky and you'll never know what you might find. Maybe even a shooting star to wish upon.


18. Farmers Market
Head over to the farmers market and check out the local produce. Most vendors are happy to let you sample produce and gourmet cheeses. Maybe, you'll find the ingredients for a romantic dinner for two.


19. Road Trip
There's a place on the outskirts of town that you've always wanted to go -- but have always been too busy to stop. Now is the time to check it out. It's the perfect place for a first date.


20. Bowling
A sport that involves drinking beer and eating nachos has to be fun. And it's also a sport that almost anyone can master within an hour. Try a few frames together!


21. Car Show
Get his motor running! A car show is like a street festival. There is always a band, a food truck and people out to have a good time.


22. Video Marathon
Act like a couple of couch potatoes and have a Netflix marathon of a TV show that neither one of you has ever seen before.


23. Volunteer
Do good and have fun! It won't cost you anything but time to pitch in and help out at your local community center or homeless shelter.


24. Library Night
Get library cards together! You'll discover that a library is just like your favorite bookstore -- only the books are free and you can make out in the stacks.


25. Have Sex
Why not? It is (mostly) free. And it's definitely something that you both enjoy doing together. So make some time to get sexy together.
