It's that time of year.
When you make a list of self-improvements you'd like to make over the
next 12 months. You have some options. You can stick to the tried and true
resolutions about your weight, your job and your love life -- these are aspects
of your life that you can change or you can go about making resolutions a
little bit differently this year.
We've got a few ideas that will help you make resolutions
that you may actually be able to keep, and even better, might actually help you
make positive changes in your lifestyle.
1. Make small changes.
Don't set yourself up for failure. Remember that getting
from point A to point B takes a lot of little baby steps. Make your new year's
resolution to be just one of the many steps on the way to point B -- you'll be
so pleased when you are able to meet your goal, that you may then be able to
take the next step. And by year's end, you'll be amazed at how far you've
gotten. Check out this post about making small changes on MSNBC.com
2. Give yourself a little time
It takes 21 days to make a habit. So if you're trying to eat
better, quit smoking or curb your alcohol intake, just remember to give
yourself a little time to make healthy adjustments. The same goes for sex -- it takes 21 days to
create the habit of better sex.
3. Make room for mistakes.
If you're dieting, make sure that you allow yourself the
ability to fall off your diet now and then. If you overeat one day, you can get
back on the path to healthy eating the next day -- it doesn't mean that your
diet has failed. It's the same with dating. If you're trying to change the kind
of men you date, don't be surprised if you find yourself back with someone who
seems familiar. Just remember that you really wanted to try something new.
4. Do something new
Want to make a change in your life? Do something you've
never done before. You don't have to go skydiving, although that sounds like a
lot of fun. You can set your goals much smaller. If you get up late for work
every morning, set your alarm for an hour early and take the time to make a new
habit. If you always go to bed early, stay up late and see what happens next. A
little change can lead to a lot of fun.
5. Prioritize
Are you putting what's most important to you first? Want a
better sex life? Then you need to make time for sex and intimacy. Want to date more? Make sure that your online
profile is up-to-date and you are making time to go out every week. Want a new
job? Make time to update your resume and send out cover letters every day. The
first step is to decide what is most important to you. And then…go for it! They
say it's the little things in life that truly matter, so when you're making new
year's resolutions, make sure you start small and build to something big by
year's end!
